The Mountain Makerspace (MM) was formed to nurture & catalyze creativity and problem solving in the High Country by bringing together the talented artists, craftpersons, and creators of our community in a collaborative studio/workshop setting.
The MM is currently building a Tinker’s Trailer that will serve as a mobile ambassador, workshop space and Tool Library as we search for a large permanent homebase and grow our dues-paying membership (currently we have 5 Founding Members providing $900 in annual operating funds.)
The MM has received the donation of a 24 foot trailer and has financed a deeply discounted purchase of a 26 foot box (that will be mounted on the trailer) from the Box Truck of one of our Founding Members.
Projected Budget
Below is the projected budget for this initiative:
| Item | Cost |
|---|---|
| Consultation and design reinforcement of our trailer frame from Jim Clemens, Clemens Welding. | $150 |
| Trailer frame reinforcement materials, rust remediation, and paint (Steel H-Beam Resource). | $800 |
| Labor for trailer frame reinforcement (16 hours @$50/hour) | $800 |
| 7,000 lb. heavy duty tandem axle replacement kit, 14,000 lb. capacity (including electric brakes, wiring, lights, jack, and receiving hitch; kit will be installed by volunteer makerspace members) Parts Link | $2,500 |
| Balance on box from “Box Truck” (Starnes Tree Service) | $500 |
| Estimated crane and box installation ($500 crane and $300 welder) | $800 |
| Total Project Cost | $5,550 |
The projected budget will ensure a road worthy Tinker’s Trailer.
Future Plans
Future plans for the MM Tinker’s Trailer and Tool Library include rollout flooring for the work space when parked and solar power generation for off-grid operation (the MM has already received a donation of solar panels for this enhancement.) Any cost savings from the above projection will be used for these future projects.
